The FBE condemns the violation of human rights in Iran.
We note the exclusión of women from access to justice in respect of their civil and political rights. The recent protests and civil uprising, where women and men have expressed their opposition to the regime, in particular the rights of women over how they dress, and the extreme represión against protestors and human rights defenders, has resulted in the torture and death of young women in police custody.
We note that lawyers who represent those who protest are themselms stigmatised and persecuted in contravention of the United Nations Principles on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers.
We call upon the United Nations, international and national organisations to conduct independent investigations of these crimes, and to bring the perpetrators to justice. Without equality and respect for women’s righjts there is no justice.
