The FBE following its meeting in Valencia (1-3 October 2009) and having debated the philosophical, moral and practical basis for professional structures and ethical rules concerning conflict of interest for members of the legal profession, has resolved that in all countries the members of the legal profession must observe the following fundamental principles:-
(a) strict professional secrecy according to the national jurisdiction including the bar regulations.
(b) at all times avoid acting for a client when the interests of that client are in actual conflict with the interests of the lawyer himself or herself or the interest of other clients;
(c) all permitted professional structures must at all times ensure that such fundamental principles are preserved and enforced.
